You own all your data, content and relationships. Elgg has been built with an open, transparent and collaborative ethos and that translates to our services. We do not use advertising and we will never share or sell your data. It's your site, full stop. - Why is there no 'free' option?
The core Elgg engine is open source and is free to download at elgg.org. With our Elgg.com service, we believe in charging a fair price rather than subsidizing a 'free' account by selling advertising or restricting your ability to access your data if you decide to move. Sure, there are free social applications out there, but don't forget you may be entrusting data, relationships and marketing effort to a third party with no guarantee of service continuity. With Elgg.com you retain ownership and control of your data whilst building your relationships and reputation via your own social hub, rather than someone else's.
